THE STORY:
Emma Lirriper runs a boarding house at Number Eighty-One Norfolk Street in The Strand.

She follows saves Mrs Edson as she is about to throw herself into the Thames.

She and her lodger, Major Jackman, adopt a child of a lodger who died in childbirth.
