GGF13 – John Allen I was born c1520 at St Columb Major, Cornwall, I can find no details of his parents, so this is as far as I can take the Allen line – if I could establish that Reskymer linkage then I might be able to take it right back to the 11th century! Still trying!
1520 CONTEXT May 1520: Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor visited King Henry VIII and celebrated the Feast of the Ascension at Dover. Proud of his navy, Henry gave his guest a private tour on board one of his mightiest ships, one of them being the Mary Rose.  June 1520: King Henry VIII of England and King Francis I of France meet at the Field of the Cloth of Gold, close to Calais. This was ostensibly organised to symbolise the young kings’ friendship, but also proved an opportunity for them to outdo the other in terms of splendour and military prowess. |
