| Ugni blanc: This grape is originally from Italy (Tuscany) where it is grown under the name Trebbiano toscano. It is believed to have originated in Italy in the 14th c and spread into southern France The Trebbiano/Ugni blanc family account for around a third of all white wine in Italy, being mentioned in over 80 DOCs. Varieties/Mutations There are eleven certified clones. In the United States, the Vidal blanc grape, which is a hybrid of Ugni blanc and Rayon d’Or, is planted in many states. Ugni molinae, commonly known as Chilean guava berry, or strawberry myrtle, is a shrub native to Chile and southern Argentina. Its round-shaped, small-to-medium sized berries have skin which can become slightly pink when over ripe.
