| Muscat Ottonel: First cultivated in 1852 in Alsace, said to be a cross of Chasselas with Muscat de Saumur/Muscat Ingram. This grape is best known for its use in dessert wines from Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Moldova and Serbia; and dry wines from Alsace and Hungary. The term Muscat d’Alsace is permitted for the varieties Muscat Ottonel, Muscat blanc à petit grains and Muscat rose à petit grains blended in any combination. Considered as the palest member of the Muscat family, in terms of color but also in terms of flavour intensity, It is advised to be consumed young, preferably from the latest vintage. It has taste of exotic fruits and citrus peel, such as peach, apricot, grapefruit, and lemon. It grows small-to-medium round-shapped berries. The tip of young shoots have a low density of prostrate hairs, and its young leaves are reddish, while the shoots have red-striped internodes and long tendrils.
