American Notes – 1842 – a minor work
 In October 1842 Charles published notes of his American 1842 journey as American Notes, in one volume. It was based largely upon letters he had sent to John Forster, it sold well. However, it got negative reviews on both sides of the pond. English readers found little of note. American readers reacted to the criticism of slavery, of American manners, of their press and his regular groans about international copyright. |
