From Park Street, for now we will ignore East Street that joins you from the right, and proceed straight on to Upper High Street. You can of course follow this link to East Street if you wish.

Upper High Street widens as you go along it, and gains space at its centre for the Upper High Street Car Park (shown as 2 on the Town Centre map). In-car this is approached by an early right turn, and then by seven entries into it, offering 123 parking spaces. This car park is free-of-charge, though parking time is limited to two hours. Be warned that parking elsewhere within Upper High Street is usually chargeable.

Note: Tuesday is market day, so there is no overnight Monday parking, and all of the car park is taken up by the market on Tuesdays.

For this guide, we will first walk along the left hand side of Upper High Street from the War Memorial and Gardens, and show the sites and organisations along it, and terminating this section with the Watch Doctor shop.
