The Naturalists’ Association of the Netherlands Indies had proposed sending colonial materials (of popular and industrial arts) to the Arnhem event, but couldn’t pull this together in time. So instead held its own event in Batavia in 1853, with the intention of providing a focus on colonial capabilities and help advance its productivity.
