Given the lack of local exhibition progress the French saw their opportunity and organised an event in London.
Held in November at George Street/Hanover Square, London, the Exposition of the Products of French Industry afforded those unable to attend the Paris exposition the opportunity to examine items of French manufacture.
It was organised by M. Charles Sallandrouze de Lamornaix, Ancien Depute, Membre de Conseil general des Manufactures. Simultaneously he took exhibition space at the Birmingham Exhibition of Local Manufactures and Natural History. He would later serve as a juror at the Great Exhibition.
This is assumed to have chivvied up British resolve for an international, or universelle, event of their own.
