Jane’s GGF8 – Philip Allen I (1667-1728) was born and baptised on 8 Jul 1667 at St Columb Major in Cornwall, to GGF9 – Reskymer Allen (1620-1690) and Gertrude Keate (1639- ).

1667 CONTEXT

The year before this, The Great Fire of London was a major conflagration that swept through the central parts of London from Sunday to Thursday, 2nd-6th September 1666.
The fire gutted the medieval city of London inside the old Roman city walls.

John Milton signed a contract for the publication of his Paradise Lost with London printer
Samuel Simmons for an initial payment of £5. The first edition was
published in October and sold out in eighteen months.

GGF8 – Philip I married GGM8 – Mary Elliott (1665- ) of St Austell, Cornwall in 1693, they had four children and nine grandchildren:

Philip I later married GGM8 – Anne Carthew in 1706, they had three children, none of whom had a marriage or issue:

Philip I ran a small inn variously called The Duke William or The Old Duke at St Blazey Highway in Cornwall. However, at some stage he must have followed his sons to Bath, because he died there in 1728.
