I recently came to realise that a lot of the preparation work I did on Ancestry was not readily accessible from this site – so here is another way of presenting it, and where an individual is on Ancestry I have provided the link below, though where my site has featured the individual I link to that rather than to Ancestry.
Robert Soulsby Denton III | Robert Soulsby Denton II | Robert Soulsby Denton | Joseph Denton |
I now realise that my gene pool covers not just the Dentons but has also inherited elements of the following thirty-one families:
Banks Baskiville Bees Blackhall Critchley Croudace Cruddes Dike Dyke Green Grundy Harding Heaps Hill Honey Hutton | Jenkins Jones Lewis Mellanby Ralph Ross Saunders Sill Sloggett Soulsby Sweet Taylor Towell Turner Walton |
Four generation overview
The four generations ahead of me consists of thirty individuals (see below) – who were born arrayed across some 400 miles of England, from Stoke Damerel in Plymouth (close to Devonport, where my daughter Sarah was later to be born) to Hebburn in Durham.
Thirteen of them were born in Bristol, albeit in ten different parishes. Six were born in Willenhall and one in nearby Birmingham. Five were born in Durham, three in Lancashire and one each in Cheltenham and Plymouth.
Five generations back
If we push this back a further generation, just one of these 32 is a Denton – and we find we cannot identify three of my 32 GGP3s.
These do push us out further into the south west (Looe Cornwall, Plymouth and Modbury Devon) and further north east (Chester-le-Street and Gateshead) and north west to Cliburn, Penrith Cumbria. Eight come from Staffordshire/Warwickshire with one from a little more south at Langley, Witney Oxon. Five are from Bristol with one from Stroud in nearby Gloucestershire. Four are from Durham, three from Prescot Lancs, two from Devon, one each from Cornwall and Herefordshire.
